"Diversity is a strength" is very real in corporate America. It isn't a strength anywhere else but it keeps corporate infighting at a fever pitch and keeps the unions out while the executives line their pockets all the way to the bank.
Judge might hear it, but not much the union bastards can do. Alabama is a Right to Work state. If the employees say No, then it is a No. Amazon gave them plenty of time (several months to vote) and the RWDSU’s only real complaint is that Amazon had a drop box outside the facility.
So, they went to Alabama, tried to push a union and assumed that because they were mostly black an organization as divisive as BLM would galvanize their group? In Alabama...
I'm thinking the people that organized this union push was not from around there.
Amazon isn't paying $15 out of the kindness of its heart. It can pay $15 as it's chump change for a company its size and then post op-eds in the Walter Duranty-New York Times attacking other companies for not paying that much, in order to screw its competitors out of business.
Amazon are a predatory multi-national corporation, but there's worse people to work for. I mean, $15 an hour (roughly £11 for Brits) is not bad money at all for that kind of job, even disregarding them sorting out your health insurance.
I'm of the controversial opinion that the megacorps aren't exactly the bad guys in all this, they're just taking advantage of a situation that a particularly incompetent breed of politician has created.
For every job that Amazon creates, it destroys three others (just an estimate) by putting traditional mon-and-pop stores out of business. Overall, it's still a loss from the jobs perspective, even if they do pay slightly more than other stores.
That's generally true (evidenced by the fact that it was pushing BLM here).
But I'd rather have leftist power that is arranged against corporate (SJW) power, and therefore limits it, than one that aids it and therefore magnifies it.
I have no illusion about unions. Any organization where some wield power over others, which is to say all organizations, will eventually get corrupted by self-serving elites. It's the Iron Law of Oligarchy.
I think unions can be quite good, not a necessary evil, but often they end up not being that. I do support unionization of 'journalism', as that may give journalism just the push off the cliff that it needs, as well as of Amazon and other Megacorps, as they have far too much power as it is.
And as I always tell TheImpossible1, someone need not be your friend in order for you to use them to balance others. Nixon used China to balance the Soviet Union quite productively. You can't win a war against all simultaneously, you have to pick and choose what the greater evils are, and fighting against who can be deferred.
"Let's align with the Old Marxists against the Intersectional Marxists!"
The irony is that trade unions were historically a bulwark against ideological Marxism. The reason why Stalin hated them and Social Democrats so much is because he thought they prevented revolutions in Western countries.
American schools have been unionized for decades. The Federal government is now bailing unions out directly.
Teacher's unions are very bad, I agree.
Yes, that's turned out so well for us.
First of all, I'm not 'us' - but yes, that worked out very well from an American strategic perspective. The fact that future American presidents continued helping China even when there was no more need to help China is not the fault of what Nixon did.
And I'm not even saying that it was right. I'm saying that it worked, and that it can be used.
Not gonna lie, I'm fairly anti-union myself. But it's one of those things where the worst a union can do is compared to the worst the company can do, and see which is the lesser of two evils.
With Amazon, I'm pretty sure Old Scratch himself is taking notes so I'd accept a Union there. But maybe not for, say, Gamestop.
Unions are good, anybody who would organize a union in 2021 is a fanatical communist who must be kept from accumulating any kind of power at all costs.
Creating racial division is good for monopolists and oligarchs.

I like how the union is so pissed off that they're demanding a full investigation into the election and accusing Amazon of fraud.
But since it's unions (as opposed to conservatives) calling out fraud, judges will probably hear them out.

Carpetbaggers gonna carpetbag...
I can't give you an internet award here, but I just wanted to say this is one of the best comments I've ever seen.
Pretty much. The group that pushed it was RWDSU, based in New York.

Unions can be a very good counterweight against megacorp power.
Used to be. These days they are just another leftist institution that works against its own members to push a political agenda.

Let's not.

They hardly resulted in the downfall of Western Europe. They're not just good on paper. They can be good in real life, and have been.
All modern unions do is just take money from workers and funnel it into democrat PACs and campaign funds.
Fuck unions.
Sure I hate Amazon, but I hate unions even more.

Man, even if all the contested ballots were legitimate pro-union votes they would still have lost hard at about 60% to 40%.
Are people waking up to the truth of BLM finally?
