I recall reading that in some Latin American countries, they really do use America for the entire New World region and Americans for all inhabitants. People from the USA are referred to in these places as Norteamericano (North Americans), Estadounidense (United Statesian), or Yanqui (Yankee). However, I see no reason to change the terminology in English to suit the Spanish-speaking world.
