I recently bought Rogue Legacy 2 because I liked the first one and saw this one just came out and had a few %s of discount at the last steam sale.
Gameplay wise it was "fine", nothing particularly stood out and I'm sure I would have had at least some fun with it had I kept it. However the flavor text and some design decisions were promoting lefty ideas which made it hard for me to fully immerse myself and enjoy the game.
I fully admit that I may be overly sensitive to this kind of thing but I would rather spend my gameplay time on something that doesn't try to sneak in a commie agenda, even "tongue in cheek".
It is also possible that at least some of the features were present in the first game and I just wasn't noticing them because 2013 as a different era.
The premise of the game is you are an adventurer looking to restore your family's kingdom and when you fail one of your children will replace you in the next run. Each child has randomly determined starting stats, abilities, and "quirks" that can include both benefits and drawbacks.
The first thing that stood out is your supposed "children" can have a variety of skin colors. This is pretty standard in terms of how random characters are usually made and only stands out because of the implications it has when you start with the original premise.
Second is one of the traits your characters can have is "Nature" which can state your character is homosexual thus promoting that degeneracy. I don't think it has any gameplay effect but why have it at all? Answer: virtue signaling and getting headpats from the pozzed gaming press.
Third is the flavor text on the castle upgrades had several digs at "the wealthy" or supporting "universal healthcare" which are completely anachronistic for a medieval-style theme.
And my last straw was the "Valkyrie" class which notes (paraphrased) "Thanks to gender equality men can also be valkyries!" They had absolutely on reason to choose valkyrie as the class name, they could have called it "Lancer" or "Spear User" or whatever but they had to use Valkyrie for virtue signaling purposes.
I noped out after that and got a refund.
The homosexuality thing was in the first game (good luck continuing your family line when you have an innate aversion to breeding, not that anyone thinks about these things logically.) But yeah, I was turned off getting the sequel too because they kept pushing the envelope. Glad to hear I'm not missing anything super special.
I just assumed the next generation would be a niece/nephew. You only really notice or care about the logic the first 30 minutes of the game. After that you just see the game as a game and go for what class you think works best. That, or avoid the bad quirks like they are radioactive.
... you accept it as a normal part of the game. This is how you know the brainwashing is starting to settle in.
I'm here aren't I? Sometimes stupid game mechanics are just that. I wouldn't be here if I got brainwashed in 2013.
Damn, I didn’t even remember homosexual being a trait in the first game. I guess it was just so pointless that it never stood out to me.
Choosing to be "homosexual" should be "ironman/permadeath" mode, if the idea is that you're playing a dynasty. It's one thing your kings having a taste for foreigners (or rather, "politically useful unions"), but homosexuality in a game whose entire premise relies on procreation is something else.
Now I kind of want a Rogue Legacy spinoff where every time you die, the next generation gets more and more fucked up from inbreeding.
Could be interesting: You increase in power from unlocks, but get progressively more "weird" mutations, offsetting the power gain, or introducing new difficulty mechanics with the unlocks.
Plenty of homosexuals procreate out of obligation and or to stay hidden within society. Like Among Us but with a meatshiv thru the butt.
I've also become very sensitive to ideological indicators in general. I worry that I won't give a work a fair chance for it having, I dare say, too many black people or women. So I try to abstain from judgement lest I become actually intolerant and deprive myself from good things in bitterness.
The race variation could have worked if it was a gradient over successive generations, but from your latter examples I cannot make excuses for that game. Consider acquiring a demo next time.
It's the humor that hurts the game for me. Watching Vinesauce play it several months back pretty much turned me off completely. Every time the game tried to crack a pun and it almost always made my eyes roll. Like, there's dad jokes, and then there's... whatever the fuck this is. It's like the writer/s were trapped in time and only recently thawed out.
This is why I want us to start going into video games and forming clans and groups inside these spaces.
They're targeting the children with this bullshit, and they're shifting the Overton Window as far as they can.
Take this scene from Sonic Boom.
Annoying and promoting Feminism, sure. But we have no cultural movement in any other direction related to kids. You don't hear Tales responding with
Match that up with him saying "Just because I'm a meat head, doesn't mean I'm not a Feminist."... when we all know, yeah it does. Weak cuttlefish men are Feminists, not meat-heads.
A better quip would be Tails saying "Sonic, I think Knuckles is going to try to molest Amy."
We don't really have any cultural backdraft against the inclusion of Leftist, and occasionally radical Leftist, ideology in entertainment. We need to provide potential enclaves to gamers, particularly the youths, from the incessant indoctrination we all went through and maybe even bought into. Especially if that line of politics is paired with rabid narcissism, nihilism, and resentment.
I'm less interested in making sure we get Shadow The Hedge Hog to start quoting from the John Birch Society, and more just making sure that the kids don't continue to kill themselves in an alarming rate by a media paradigm that teaches them worthlessness and aimlessness.
We need to build little enclaves that teach kids to tie their self-worth to their individual responsibilities, respect for stoicism, and even some basic bitch re-moralization on masculine and feminine forms.
After I wrote this post I had an idea for a game development house that releases anti-woke versions of pozzed games.
The protagonists will all be white males, there will be hot chicks as both decoration and princesses to rescue, the enemies will either be explicitly foreigners or have obvious stereotypical foreigner features. Lots of patriotic themes as well.
Think duke nukum 3d (the original) but played straight.
There wouldn't have to be any marketing at all, just plant a few seeds and the hate and outrage would be better than any intentional advertising.
What's sad is that that might actually work. But remember, most people don't care about the ideology of the thing, just the gameplay. The most important aspect is for it to be good.
I can throw my vote of "it was there in the first one" behind the situation where one of the offspring options was "homosexual", as well. I remember thinking it was odd, but it didn't seem to add or detract from the character's stats so I just ignored it. Damn shame to see they went full woke on the sequel, and good on you for refunding it based on principles. If they're going to push their politics in their gameplay, they can push them on some other person.
Sjw shit aside I heard the sequel is shit compared to the first one and it's basically the first game but with tons of features removed that were in the original
That's disappointing. I did enjoy the 1st Rogue Legacy but I won't be buying this game.
These days if I purchased a game that was blatantly pushing Leftist ideology I would purposefully refund it, because I'm not interested in helping pay for people to persecute me or other sane individuals.
Bro I think you got trolled
