TLDR: If you get logged out, try putting in a random fake password before you try your real one. If it still lets you in, the site has been compromised and is a FBI honeypot. Also if they "lose user account data" and ask you to sign up again or just remove accounts entirely.
A bit disheartened to see this come from a mod who I've believed to err to the side of sanity over paranoia. I'm starting to expect the site to go away, it's getting too big of a target on it.
No kidding. If there's ever an "FBI honeypot", they can have my site-specific password and WIN karma. I'm definitely not entering in random passwords to test site legitimacy.
Nobody should be using this site - or, frankly, most platforms - for very confidential, potentially blackmailable content. That includes full names.
Yeah for sure. At most here they will get my username and a password that wouldn't really help them anywhere else. I suppose they could get my IP if I happen to not be on VPN for some reason and of course things like user-agent strings.
They won't get my name from here or any social platform, I don't use my name on any such site. Facebook I guess is the exception, but there's nothing there to get me on and I don't use it anymore. They'd have to decide some scenery pics from 5 years ago are white supremacy or something.
I feel like most people here couldn't handle TRP's beliefs enough to do so.
I don't disagree, but sometimes having that vaguely allied but opposed perspective is good. Just the right amount of commonality but difference to keep echo chamber and radicalization out.
Not that I'm not already a radical.
