I'm not upset nor surprised.
Look, if he's genuinely trying to stay in power, he's going to need the support of congressional republicans. That means he has to pass this bill, which is their baby for passing out money and protection.
As for his conduct so far, frankly, I'm surprised he's done so well. Even in the face of nearly unlimited resistance. Hell, no one even assassinated him. The fact that he survived these past 4 years is an accomplishment in and of itself.
They learned after Kennedy not to make martyrs. It's hard not to call what's happened to him anything but character assassination, though.
I don't agree that Kennedy was assassinated by anybody but Oswald.
His death didn't upset LBJ, it was super beneficial. But that doesn't mean he arranged it.
Very true
I hear he "signed it" while crossing out most of the BS and forcing it to be rewritten. Is that true?
Yes. They aren't forced to redo that.
I think, in some ways, this whole affair has proven that whilst it may seem more straightforward to utilise the establishment right for reform, it's just too corrupt and scared of its own shadow. Trump tried it, but as you say, he was just one man. Boris Johnson hasn't even tried in the first place, thus I will never vote Tory again.
Grassroots seems to be the only way forward. Coming up from below is a hell of a lot harder, but your foundations are stronger. As well as public support, you've got your guys in positions of power behind you.
It's useful for causing chaos, but if you wish to effect real long term change you need to gain power. And it seems the only method of doing that is via grassroots.
And good luck protecting against entryism.
You'll have better luck doing that with a movement you built from the ground up. When you know what to look out for, and set the rules, it's harder for lefties to infiltrate than, say, an oblivious corporation or establishment party.
Definitely true, but the Koch brothers and their take over of the tea party probably have some thoughts on what can be accomplished via well funded activists.
Fortunately, such a movement would know to look out for well funded activists. Also, if your leadership has some smattering of principles, it's bloody hard to buy them out.
All he has to do is hack dominion/edison on January 5th and secure a senate seat for himself and John Rambo, which sounds like a lot, but it really isnt. Its embarrassing how bad the security is.
In one fell swoop, he will red pill the entire planet. There will be no denying he was right. People will start realizing he was right about everything.
Next: Activate EO 13848 (wow i actually memorized the number)
EO 13848 essentially activates God Mode. If for some reason Congress clings to Joe Biden, all their assets will be seized before he leaves office. He can seize the assets of multinational conglomerates faster than Thanos can snap his fingers. And people would cheer him on.
DC.. Jan 6th. Be there, will be wild!
If Trump really does EO 13848 to end the deep state in one fell swoop I'll tattoo "I love Trump" on my fucking forehead.
Lmao that would be harder for peoppe to see so no
He pretty much had to, they would have just overruled the veto with a 2/3 majority anyway. IIUC there's still the option of a pocket veto, where he ensures that Congress is adjourned when the bill is supposed to become an act - but it looks more like he's trying to get them to vote on the individual items that he annotated, to put their names next to those things.
Should've just vetoed. Flat out. Make them override, that's fine, but his objection stands in the record.
And how do you think the media would have spun that?
He can't win here. Plain and simple.
Vetoing this just allows the left to use
the mediatheir propaganda/indoctrination arm to spin it so that, "Look how little Trump cares about people suffering! Now look how - wow - Biden came in and worked with congress to take care of the people! He can't win. It doesn't matter if "doing x is obviously the correct course", when the other side has the ability to make it so that the vast majority of the public will believe the opposite.
Seriously? It's all downside for him if he signs, all upside if he doesn't.
Sign: Your signature is your approval and your complicity. Your supporters will think you've betrayed them. Your enemies still hate you. Another crack has formed in the foundation of your future campaign.
Don't sign: Your supporters appreciate that you signaled your dissent against this heinous bill. You might actually get normies on board, because the optics of the bill are so fucking bad. Your enemies still hate you.
Who cares about media spin at this point. It doesn't matter if he dies for the sins of man, the media will always shit on him. His supporters know that. Signing is the wrong move, regardless of how it plays in the news.
In what way? If he doesn't sign, the media spends the next MONTH+ running sob stories of all the people losing their homes, losing their jobs, etc. They will place 100% of the blame on Trump. "Why didn't he want to help these people in their time of need? How could he let 'the perfect' be the enemy of 'the good'. It was obvious to everyone but him that the people needed something"
Then, what you're going to get - which is what we are STILL likely to get - is the leftist controlled congress, getting a bigger deal done - once Biden is installed - and the media is going to absolutely fellatiate them (and themselves, seeing as its the media's preferred party) for how it took "Getting rid of
HitlerTrump, and handing the reins of power back to the left, to finally help the people!"You honestly don't think that's what the goal is here? Seriously?
And it does matter how it plays in the news. It's not just about Trump. The fucking media is using COVID, using the BLM shit, using Trump in order to try to destroy the GOP permanently - or split them into two - so that they can have permanent, one fucking party, leftist control of the government.
Dude. The media is a joke. The only people who trust media narratives are beyond hope. I guarantee you that Trump's decisions are not at all influenced by how he'll be treated by the news.
Veto. Throw it out introduce the $2000 no rider bill and force cucks ro sign it.
Sadly, it never happened.
Yeah, but the question is whether they'll vote to release the funds in advance of the deadline.
IMO the situation largely boils down to either believing that congress will be under enough pressure to force their hand or not. In the latter case, they'll get the pork anyway, albeit more slowly, so it would be better to force them to overrule a veto.
As I'm extremely cynical, I'll go against the "disinformation" and other arguments that seem like over simplification or naivety. I'd love to be proven wrong about congressional temperature.
The reason I don't think a veto-on-principle would have been very effective is that this omnibus spending bill is basically a national budget, and members of Congress will defend voting for it on that basis. It's hard to justify throwing the whole thing out on the basis of a few wrinkles, and that's exactly the tactic they're using to push this through.
Now whether Trump's objections will do anything is another question - I'm not sure they even need to vote on them individually (as people on TD are saying) or if they can just sweep them aside as a whole. But I do think that an outright veto would have done nothing.
A few wrinkles it’s a 5,000 page onion of totalitarian insanity.
Hey I don't disagree, I'm just saying that's the reason they would give to vote for it anyway (now that people have actually seen the bill).
And he didn’t deem it necessary to reconsider massive funneling of tax dollars to hostile foreign dictatorships or the fucking of copyright and patents to mean only major leftist cult corporations will ever win.
And then the Alamo fell.
... So I guess trump is outing himself as another swamp creature.
I am so pissed off about this. He should have burned that thing on the white house lawn.
Me too. He jut sold out the American people.
That is not what happened.
President Trump invoked the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 while signing the COVID bill, allowing him to redline areas that must be addressed.
This sends it back to Congress forcing them to 1) repeal 230, 2) cut out the wasteful spending, 3) add $2k.

Congress will probably try to fuck the people and ignore the ICA of 1974.
President Trump better have some leverage to get them to not renege.
The left is currently waging a massive disinformation campaign online claiming that Trump caved to erode his public support even among his most fervent supporters.
Look at all the facts before falling for this bullshit campaign.
Congress has enough veto proof votes to pass this abomination of a pork bill.
President Trump vetoing it would accomplish nothing.
Him pocket vetoing would be even worse and it would trigger a government shutdown. Trump would be unilaterally blamed as turning his back on people who need financial help.
Trump is obviously making some big move on January 6th.
This is why there is currently a disinformation campaign to erode all of his public support by then.
I am saddened deeply to see even some people here fall for this disinformation campaign without actually assessing the only options Trump has regarding this cancer of a COVID stimulus bill.
I get that he is trying to maximize support on the 6th, but America is being looted with his signature. Although, there might be a timeline where red pilled lefties like Jimmy Dore or Glenn Greenwald march with the red hats, even if they won't wear one. Still a big Fuck.
This.
It's amazing how many people just completely fail to grasp how big a deal it is that the left absolutely controls the media (traditional/social).
Anything Trump does - anything - will be spun to hurt him, and help Biden. Any course of action the man takes has to be prefaced by first thinking - how can the media use this to hurt me? All these things people come up with, where they think, "How can he be such a traitor! Why doesn't he just do x??!!". Those things all sound great, and feel great, but the media are the ones that control what the mob knows/thinks. They are just going to portray things in the way that hurts him, and makes him look bad.
Until the left's control over the narrative - traditional media, social/internet media, and then education - is broken, I don't see how any victory is possible. How can anyone win in a system where your opponent is basically allowed unfettered control over what the majority of public sees, and how they will view it?
It's not just that, either. It's the fact that, with everything that has transpired over the last five years, the lesson they have learned is what? That they don't even need to bother to pretend to be even remotely unbiased anymore, and nothing bad happens. Think about what they've done over the last five years.
They have the ability to make it so that not a single day can go by without the public hearing something bad about you. Seriously. Not a single. fucking. day.* If you are not one of their anointed, they can make it so that there will be a near constant cloud of "bad" surrounding you at all times, and regardless of people remembering the specifics, they will have that general negativity in their minds when they next go to the polls.
On top of that, they have the ability to make it so that, whatever ridiculous crap their side pulls, it will either get near zero coverage, or it will always be spun in a way that minimizes the damage.
Finally, they have now learned that they can basically outright cheat, and that anyone not already firmly part of the right is never going to hear about it, and - even if they do - they won't care enough to demand anything be done about it - because they are: 1. in total control of how news is presented to the public. 2. in total control over whether or not the story is presented to the public at all
For me, I think people would be best served now by dedicating all their rage, all their ire, towards the target that is most responsible for things being like they are: the things that allow the left to indoctrinate/control the public. We need to go after the media, go after the internet companies, and then - ideally - drive the left out of education, or - at the very least - make it much more difficult for them to push their politics in schools. If people on the right just keep being complacent, and just accepting leftist control of those 3 "institutions", we're fucked. It's that simple. You cannot win when your enemy gets to indoctrinate two thirds of the public.
Beautifully said.
We must find a way to start quickly chipping away at the left's control of the major institutions.
Media, academia and tech companies are pushing leftist propaganda at breakneck speeds.
I'm not surprised to see it though. People around here barely like him in the first place judging by how many spineless losers need to preface comments by saying they don't like him.
Honestly, there's no reason to side with anyone here anymore because they simply refuse to take a stance.
Hows this for a stance? Trump fucking sucks because he didn't do a fucking thing he said he'd do. Every opportunity he had to hire effective people who could reel in the state, he instead surrounded himself with deep-staters and neocon criminals. Like CIA jackboot and George H.W. Bush toady Bill Barr, and that piece of shit John Bolton, and the military-industrial complex cocksleeve Jim Mattis. Trump never cared about doing his actual fucking job. Hell, he only ever ran for office to piss off Obama. "Take the guns first, due process second." Fuck Trump, and fuck you.
Yep, the bill is signed. The treasury raided. China has won. No amount of t/d delusion is going to change the darkest of realities we now live in.
Fuck
ok but why
Technically he red lined the bill and sent it back. Now they will have to justify and vote on those specific items instead of hiding behind wanting to support Covid Relief. That said it's a terrible bill and it's shitty that it even made it through the Senate...
Trump used the Impoundment of Control Act of 1974 to red line parts of the bill and has requested they be removed.
I have never heard of this before and was surprised he pulled this out of nowhere. Apparently line item veto's were labeled unconstitutional at some point so this is his attempt to deal with the bill while getting checks to everyone. I'm curious how this will play out.
Quit dooming. Trust Caesar. He knows what hes doing.
Right up until the senate offs him in march
