I think you've got cause and effect wrong. The people pushing alphabet issues deep down think they're repulsive and want to cover it up by glorifying the things that disturb them. It's the reason why "orcs are meant to represent black people" comes from the people who claim to protect them; they think black people are violent brutes, yet feel guilty for it.

Seeing this is somehow both depressing and fun, the entire Yaniv story is a dark comedy and I have to admit it is entertaining.
