a huge win for Republicans who worked quickly — and ignored past precedent — to advance her nomination
You gotta love Vox.
Twenty-nine times in American history there has been an open Supreme Court vacancy in a presidential election year, or in a lame-duck session before the next presidential inauguration. The president made a nomination in all twenty-nine cases.
Nineteen times between 1796 and 1968, presidents have sought to fill a Supreme Court vacancy in a presidential-election year while their party controlled the Senate. Ten of those nominations came before the election; nine of the ten were successful, the only failure being the bipartisan filibuster of the ethically challenged Abe Fortas as chief justice in 1968.
Did you see the ATF reclassified AR/AK pistols as AOWs (any other weapons) a few hours ago. Just made a few million Americans felons with the stroke of a pen.
To be fair to myself, I thought the Dems were going to fight way harder trying to stop her. The fact that they didn't bother that much only convinces me that they are throwing all of their chips into packing the court in the event of a Biden win. And the only reason they would do something like that is if they are very confident of a win. I'm pretty sure the cathedral learned its lesson after Hilldawg, and they aren't going to leave the election in the hands of the populace this time.
if they claim the stacking of court thing they risk the votes of moderate. if they claim not the stacking of court thing they risk the votes of extremists. therefore the silence option.
I still think putting another woman on the court was a mistake. A calculated decision designed to make the most of a hostile situation, but ultimately still a mistake. Women have no place in politics.
Hopefully she doesn't end up ruling with emotion. I was impressed with what I saw of her hearings. Might not have been my ideal pick, but I don't think it was a bad one and she was able to get confirmed. I'm thinking if it was another man they would have found a few dozen people to accuse him of rape to drag it out.
I think the Republicans (or more specifically, Trump) ran the numbers on the best possible candidate that CAN be confirmed within a short possible time-frame and all signs point to ACB.
Are there better men and women for the job? Probably. But if we aim too high, we risk missing entirely. Focus on the goals at hand, which is making sure that the Democrats don't get Harris into the Oval Office.

The woke internet appears to be ignoring it or excited to start court packing. I think everyone has accepted that the republic is over.
Reddit insist court packing is whatever trump did.
Its so fucking retarded.
You'd think they'd wait until they control the Senate before just saying shit like that out loud.

Either that or they realized they took the Kavanaugh abuse way too fucking far and would get punished for it doing so this close to the election.

Sweet, sweet vindication.
Don't blame me: I was just involved in some happy little grave-dancing.
Congratulations, you have successfully compelled me to listen to bustin again.
See, I'm not completely blackpilled.
Fuck, make that my third incorrect prediction.

She seems like the opposite of an emotional decision maker, to me. Pretty sure that whole "crying for George Floyd" story was a bit. Pretty sure.

That's not really how that rule works.
Nope. Not even as a joke will I associate myself with that hellspawn.
ACB better not backstab us like fucking Haspel.

We needed to fill Ginsberg's seat before the election so we have an odd number on the bench to break ties in any potential election related rulings.
Only time will tell if Barrett is truly an originalist judge.
I hope she lives up to the standards that she proclaims to follow.
I pray to God that she does.
