All of the triple A companies were indies at one time. They can be replaced like Sierra Online, THQ, and Akklaim.
I'll go one better. One of the last great games by Sierra Online was Half Life. Then Valve released the sequel on Steam and any physical copy could be registered on Steam. The entire company was tanking anyway because of internal politics and weirdness, but they didn't see Steam as a competitor.
I watched Seattle burn during the Covid riots, and politicians lead rioters to each other's houses. All of those politicians are still in power.
