UFC Jorge Masvidal gives a great "Vote for Trump" speech at a conference. (twitter.com)

Great to see a high level athlete crush it with such a speech.
A lot of people think conservatives "hate Mexicans" -- which is stupid. They have no problems with Latinos; they have a problem with people illegally entering the country. There's a massive difference. Having the tax dollars you pay go to people who don't pay in is ridiculous.
I've heard the argument, "they pay sales tax," that people on the left like to throw out. It'a stupid, because sales tax is such a minuscule amount compared to what everyone pays from their checks; plus their own sales tax on top.
I don't see why Latinos would want to vote for Democrats at this point. 70% of Latinos in America are Christian. With how hard Democrats are villainizing the religion this cycle.

Anyway, it was a great speech. Lot's of hard-hitting points.

Yeah, I just would rather athletes not use their press conferences to talk politics, even when I agree with it.

Though I understand that's a utopian desire as the left will never stop their propaganda machine, so the few on the right willing to speak must do so

As much as I want athletes to not talk any politics, that is not how the left sees it.

They have monopolized celebrity and athlete endorsements.

I was glad to see Jorge Masvidal kick ass with this speech.

It was catered to regular people and it was hard hitting.

I don't understand the lionizing of dumb jocks in the first place. Misplaced warrior-worship, I guess.

I personally don't even watch sports and I never did even when I was young.

I understand why people worship athletes. Sports were designed to be a bread and circuses event by the ruling elites to keep the masses placated.

I both do and don't have a problem with the athlete or celeb thing.

They're allowed their opinion, of course, but if all the content they're putting out is "Stand with me against hate" ... that's not even an argument. That's an ad hominem dressed up as an argument from authority.

Sports dude here actually made some points. It's a refreshing change.

There's a bit of cheerleading going on there as well, but he made substantive points that could actually lead to a discussion:

  • The DNC taking Latino votes for granted;
  • Congruence between DNC policies and those of failed or failing South American states;
  • Trump's generally positive economic record

If celebrities are going to push their opinions, I prefer the ones that are "Here's the opinion that will get me blacklisted" over "Here's the opinion that is a re-enforcement of the establishment's asserted order."

Pretty much this.

One need only see how Conservatives treat Cuban refugees vs. how leftists treat them.

Conservatives have legit empathy for real refugees (ie victims of political repression), but no empathy for migrants of convenience (ie the migrant caravan).

Sales tax is the only legitimate form of tax. All other tax is theft, so it makes sense for conservatives to be annoyed at Illegals avoiding income and property tax: It means that illegals have a better chance at property rights and fair taxation in the states than natural born citizens. That's messed up.

A lot of people think conservatives "hate Mexicans" -- which is stupid. They have no problems with Latinos; they have a problem with people illegally entering the country.

I like the fact that the Left keeps using "illegal immigrant", "Mexican", "Latino", and "Hispanic" interchangeably.

I've heard the argument, "they pay sales tax," that people on the left like to throw out. It'a stupid, because sales tax is such a minuscule amount compared to what everyone pays from their checks; plus their own sales tax on top.

That's one of their lesser arguments. The better one is the fact that, yeah, some aliens do in fact pay federal income tax in the form of filing a 1040-NR (Non-Resident), but here's the thing: How can everybody be telling the truth? You mean to tell me that this guy's employers are filling out W-2's for illegal immigrants, as well as making sure to identify withholding and payroll tax for their illegal labor?

This is why that argument is bullshit, and it's actually really bad for the immigrants themselves. The illegals are basically trying to fill out taxes based on whatever the company is telling them. There's no way that the company is going to admit on it's tax documents that it's hiring illegal labor. They might construct totally bullshit numbers for withholding and be pocketing a portion of that by saying that the migrant earned less money than they actually gave them. They're not going to pay full-scale payroll tax, or have full withholding on employees that they don't even have to legally vet.

Even if the illegal is crazy enough to honestly pay the total amount of taxes he truly owes, his employer's documents will be bullshit, and he'll go to jail for filing false documents with the feds. The whole thing is a giant tax fraud, mostly by the corporations, even if the illegal is filing a 1040-NR.

I really enjoyed his analogy at the end seeing Donald Trump as a 'head coach'. Particularly the bit where he says,

"...when you're winning Super Bowls, you don't fire the coach. It doesn't matter if you like the plays he runs, the players he puts on the field, or what he says on Twitter."
