This illustrates a few things:

People don't care if they're being lied to so long as they're hearing what they want to hear
There is no mechanism to penalize news media for blatantly lying, and people don't care
The circle of people who can be trusted to cedibly maintain the msm narrative is so small that we're seeing retreads
