Single father is a very different word than widow. In the incredibly rare case he is a widow, why would he not use that to describe himself far more accurately and in less letters?
I was thinking the same fucking thing. A single father raises his children well from the looks of it and she turns around to hate his very existence and every thing he ever accomplish? That is insanely evil.
You can't assume that the mother's worthless. For all you know, her mother died.
