A better example of your analogy would be someone going into a build via a private staff entrance, who has been caught and told to use the main entrance but instead still uses the staff entrance and checks for those who told them not to like a sneak. Intentially breaking the rules because it may have a slight benefit or make them feel more important than everyone else who abides by them.
