What is there to know? The south was full of evil racist white supremacists and the north was full of virtuous progressives (who were also evil racist white supremacists, but not as bad as the ones from the south) and the good guys won. End of story.
Remember: the United States has always been an evil, oppressive, genocidal empire. Except during the Civil War (and only on the north side) and WWII. Then it was unquestionably the good guy, and the good guys ALWAYS win!
The wrong side won the war. Most of what people know about the war is wrong.
To quote an old country song - "if the South would of won, we'd have it made..."
I'm amazed at just how many idiots actually still believe the Civil War was about slavery.
1990s Simpsons even made fun of the belief that the Civil War was about Slavery.

The tyrannical empire in my own story wears navy blue uniforms and is called 'The Union'. I don't like ham-handed political commentary in my media, but those design choices aren't for no reason.
