I can't lie, I don't think it's any big loss. Hellblade might as well be subtitled "fuck you if you have tinitus.". It had basically no meaningful gameplay and leaned almost completely on the gimmick, which just made the whole thing worse.
That gimmick is also fake too. It's all a lie. You won't loose your game if you die too many times. The deception is supposed to be part of the dimencia she has
Did anyone ever play these games? They always looked bad. Two major thoughts:
Why spend so much money to make a female main character who is not attractive?
Why are all these games presenting women as warrior badasses? If you've got anything resembling a realistic artstyle it's kind of ludicrous to show women slicing through guys that tower over them and have 2x muscle mass
I liked the first Hellblade. It’s an interesting love story. The combat sucks but I liked the binaural audio gimmick. The game is short enough that the repetitive combat isn’t a deal breaker. I didn’t think it needed a sequel let alone a third game so I never played the second game not to mention the lack of subtlety in modern games…
Yeah I mean games can do different things. The protagonist isn't even ugly either, but she's deliberately presented in unattractive ways... Not always a dealbreaker but in the past 10y too difficult to ignore this trend to give devs any benefit of the doubt.
Should've happened in 2013 when they tried to kill Devil May Cry and spite DMC fans and gleefully teamed up Alex Garland to do it. They were one of the first developers to blatantly spite fans and give them a massive middle finger because they wanted a modern audience.

The game proudly features mental illness as a gameplay mechanic. Whether this is a self-insert is unclear but it would explain a lot.
Nope. I don't play games with ugly female protagonists. I'm done with girlbosses.
They're a humiliation ritual to demoralise straight White men.
