Discussing this with my family, I'm depressed that they all seem to agree with this. They think government should take the place of irresponsible parents and punish negligent AMERICAN corporations. In Quebec, freedom is basically a dirty word since covid. Freedom of expression is seen only as a far right loon concern. So depressing.
In the mid-2010's, one of the groups that the media gave 15 seconds of fame to was the Sovereign Citizens, and people were laughing at videos of their loony antics.
Alas, I think that was the herald of freedom dying, because there was an ulterior motive to broadcasting the Sovtard loonies:
They wanted to start putting anyone who even slightly dissents against "official" things into the same box as the Sovtards.
To be fair, can anyone name ONE horrific to civil liberties policy they haven't on record said they are thinking of implementing or haven't ALREADY implemented?
Mandatory always-online spyware on all electronic devices to ensure you're not expressing Wrongthink or accessing any content without paying a loicence fee ( even for content you already own ) or watching adds, with a camera always watching to ensure you make eye-contact with the screen during at least 75% of the duration of the add.
Addblocks get criminalized in an update to DRM law. Jailbreaking your own devices ( which is technically already illegal in the USA : breaking a digital lock ) gets actually enforced.
We're halfway there. I expect Linux to bend the knee.
