I was almost about to praise this game, too, because the seven minutes of gameplay didn't look bad. Even though there was nothing terribly new other than being able to low-wall cover and leap from objects, I figured, "at least it's masculine again....!"
Then I noticed that one of the four teammates was a blonde short-haired looking dyke, and my woke-radar started pinging.
Then I noticed there was an unskippable segment where Marcus gets downed and someone has to save him while he's being mauled. Then I noticed ANOTHER unskippable cutscene where Marcus is going one-on-one with a Locust and nothing he does is working and he's about to die, until the Maori, Tye, comes to save him.
This is a trend I noticed in movies and games with male leads: they're constantly being undermined and haivng to be saved by some DEI hire.
It was a constant them in the movie Predator: Badlands, the movie War Machine, and that 007 game. And in just seven short minutes Marcus had to be saved twice via unskippable cutscenes. I can only imagine what the rest of the game is like (well, judging by the clip of the dykemutt...I guess we can all figure it out).
One of their favorite things is using prequels as an opportunity to diminish or otherwise reframe beloved straight white male heroes. You like Marcus Fenix? Well did you know the only reason he survived in the first place was because a diverse group of preexisting heroes saved his life every ten minutes? When you think about, aren't those women and minorities the real heroes? Wasn't your straight white male hero just standing on their shoulders all along?
Maybe the funniest example of this was Reva from the Obi-Wan television show. You like Luke Skywalker? Did you know he only survived because a strong black woman let him live? She was going to kill him, easily, but instead she spontaneously overcame her own sith nature to stop herself. She spared your straight white male hero. So your really owe everything to this preexisting black female hero. Without her, the entire original Star Wars trilogy you love so much would have never even happened! Also, she survived being stabbed with a lightsaber by Darth Vader himself! Twice! This isn't fucking retarded at all!
