At some point in history, society decided that the opinions of artists was as valid as any others, and perhaps even worse so, that some art was better than others.
What you end up with is Tolkien and whoever wrote 50 Shades of Gray are both the same because someone chose to publish and consume them, when in reality one is a fantasy engineering project and the other is fanfic smut. So why should they get the same weight in what they have to say?
The supreme relativism of postmodernism was always a demon trap. Your individual subjective truth, your mentally ill "lived experience", is as valid as any other. Your degenerate culture, your inverted morality, your ugly retarded art, your subversive standard of beauty, all of it is equally valid. Because any discrimination, any discernment, any hierarchy, is the only real evil.
They definitely aren't demons using their most refined and plausibly deniable tool to tear down everything they hate. In the names of love and tolerance, of course.
The whole thing is designed to encourage and pander to narcissism; which is why the Boomers took to it so well.
You've got it backwards.
Society destroys artists it disagrees with and unfairly rewards those that tell it what it wants to hear.
