Laugh, the only way to reduce what education costs is to get rid of the "for profit" part of it. Its not a coincidence that costs exploded in the 90's shortly after they made student debt the only piece of debt you cant bankrupt lmao. It's the same thing with healthcare, stuff that helps betters peoples live should not be given to private entity's who only desire is to make more and more money.
But lives be damned, think of the profits!
But really, money is just how the rich gatekeep the poor from lifting themselves out of poverty. Having a uneducated, ignorant, population serves the elites interest. In a perfect world education would be free.
But ill point out two things, one this study was done in denmark.
Danish colleges and universities are primarily state-funded, non-profit, self-governing institutions. They are tuition-free for Danish, EU/EEA, and Swiss citizens, focusing on education as a public good. The government funds them based on student activity and graduation rates.
Small countries that actually run for the people's interests and not the elite's.
and two
Most women avoid me, old ladies and kids dont care, but im not a "good looking" person, I look big and thug like, doesnt help that I never smile.
If I was black, I am sure i would blame it on that, im sure I could blame everything that happened to me because of it and I likely would have gotten help. Imagine a black man getting poisoned by his employer lmao.
But im not, so I cant blame it on the color of my skin, maybe the culture of my society, but I know, no one understands how being appalachian makes it really hard to blend into mainstream society.
Having any spirtuality or morals fucks you for about everything in this society that is built only to serve the elite/the richs needs.
Education is essentially free already. Certification is not.
We were only forced to use a diploma as a proxy for education because Griggs v. Duke Power Co. made it illegal to test for intelligence yourself. College is not the indicator for intelligence and social character it was in 1971, but the requirement became locked in.
Yea on a smaller scale. Whining about the rich or coveting what others have doesn’t help but I agree on a smaller scale that funded them based on achievement would work better. We would have to stop quotas or being obsessed with everything being perfectly diverse or “reflecting the world as it is today”. You don’t have bad ideas but you do seem to think the government is going to solve your problems. This country wastes a lot of money and if you could show me that the government could effectively spend it on healthcare then I would listen but on a smaller scale it could work.
Education is the same. Some parents are more involved and some kids are more interested than others. I like the idea of rewarding achievement though. Although I know the question would get asked why am I responsible for someone else’s education or healthcare. I’ve done volunteer work with tutoring and it’s amazing how certain costs could come down but they won’t do it. I do believe elites want people to be dumb and public school seems to be a part of that
Scored/win recently removed all the downvote tracking on the backend for some reason, people can downvote but it never counts anymore. So people may well have been downvoting it much more than those 5 upvotes.
I don't know if you've ever looked but I know you're in Texas. Community college in Texas is typically really, really cheap. I'm of the opinion that everyone that is going to college at all should start at community college. They don't want to because their whole life they've been sold their education is to focus on drinking, hazing, and sex parties as some kind of moronic rite of passage.
Federal back loans are a massive scam, useless degrees are the same, both rely on taking advantage of people who should have never been there in the first place.
Most people have a skill or another, why shouldnt they have a cert for it if they want to pursue it? Seems weird to want to gatekeep certs and degrees.
I’m not trying to gatekeep anything. I’m all for certifications and degrees. I do think there are some useless degrees. I can always count on you for your unnecessary input. I have no power to gatekeep. Have certifications myself. But there is a problem in dumbing down requirements and giving people degrees/certificates for just showing up. Like some moronic universities gave black students an A on tests or excused them from exams after the George Floyd stuff due to “trauma”. Ridiculous
In america, student debt is one of the only forms of debt that cant be purged by bankruptcy thanks to some laws passed in the mid 90's.
Student loan debt is not the only form of debt that cannot be easily purged by bankruptcy in the United States, although it is uniquely difficult to discharge compared to other types of private unsecured debt.
While it is true that laws passed in the mid-90s (and notably 2005) tightened restrictions, other debts—such as child support, alimony, and most tax debts—are also generally non-dischargeable in bankruptcy

Add it to the list of things the CRA fucked up.

I find it hard to believe people are up-voting, and not down-voting, this bullshit Commie trash here.

Colleges sell lifestyle over academics because it’s about quantity of students not quality of education, same with most things in America anymore.
Federal back loans are a massive scam, useless degrees are the same, both rely on taking advantage of people who should have never been there in the first place.
Add to that the old adage that “if everyone has a degree then they are no longer special”
Most people have a skill or another, why shouldnt they have a cert for it if they want to pursue it? Seems weird to want to gatekeep certs and degrees.
Just think useless degrees are sad. Certificates are great. Makes me sad to see my relatives to get a massive loan for a degree that isn’t marketable.

I feel if we just made the studen debt dischargeable by bankruptcy a large amount of issues would be solved
Lawyers and doctors were strategically declaring bankruptcy after college. Education cannot be repossessed.
Maybe in canada.
