I know the arguments for why Israel is winning, and for why they are losing. I just can't adjudicate between the two, perhaps because I know "less than shit".

The one time you just repeated CNN and said that cluster munitions were a hyper illegal superweapon was really the nail in your coffin.

For Israel, yes. For the Jews in charge, not necessarily.
It all depends on what the actual goal of this mess is.
So far, seems like they've taken fewer hits than during the Twelve Day War (but Iran has to distribute its firepower more), and Iranian tactics may be worse (a constant barrage for disruption rather than an attempt to destroy serious targets).
Meanwhile, they're hammering Iran with their puppet.
Censorship is extremely strict this time around which is why you're not seeing much footage. And neither Israel or the US will publicly admit how many casualties they've took. Same with Ukraine and Russia. You're not getting real numbers there either.
It's definitely the case that they're hiding the number of wounded. It seems the dead would be more difficult to hide, not? Centcom is regularly announcing them, although some are being hidden in other forms - e.g. that NYPD guy.

Not the MSM. I follow people on Twitter whom I trust, ranging from anti-war to serious analysts.
I may be wrong. There is fog of war. There is military censorship in Israel. But this is my best judgment.
