I'm actually going to defend this law, hear me out
As described in the tweet, this law requires a birthdate to be entered on OS setup. As I understand it, it does not require a face scan or government ID (yet). So long as this law requires just a simple birthday entry on setup, it is genius from a privacy perspective.
Imagine if adult content and social media platforms didn't have to ask for ID or age from the user, and could instead tap directly into the OS level birthdate. This feature completely undermines the argument for face scanning and digital id as a way to protect children.
but the kid can just lie about his age on setup
But its now a single point of entry that parents have a lot of control over. Parents can be responsible and set up the device before giving it to their kids.
but parents now have to dox their kids
Not necessarily. I feel a privacy respecting parent would use a birthdate either Jan 1st of the next year, or a random date after the kid's birthdate.
but the kid can just change the OS level birthdate
Firstly, if your kid is smart enough to do this, congrats. He is one of the few of his generation that is not a zombie. Secondly, Don't give your kids admin rights to their devices. This allows you to be in touch with the games they install, and every parent should be.
But now adults have to dox themselves
just use a fake birthdate
but adult content creators can just not use this feature and show porn to kids anyway
And this is the job for government agencies because.....?
Not to mention that government agencies are the biggest cause of child abuse out there. From handing over kids to unfit parents willingly (family courts are the prime example for that) to actually sex trafficking them to elites for blackmail (every intelligence agency is conducting Epstein businesses). So how about we kick off government far away from any tech so that they cannot fuck this up as well.
The only job of government agencies is enforcing laws, they have no business collecting data and, as described in the tweet, this law would not sanction any additional data collection by the government.
By making this feature law, providers can operate assuming devices have it. With that assumption in place, all arguments for digital ID as a way to protect children become moot.

No argument from me

no doubt they will rewrite it, There is no way they will renege on digital ID. I'm just pointing out how the law as precisely described in the tweet undermines the digital ID agenda.
My kids were always logged in as me when they were kids. It's how monitored their behavior. They tried to have youtube comment fights, but that doesn't work so well when the comment goes to your mommies email.
None of the fake safety ID rules work. We know this already.
Btw, those of us with a 1/1 already have enough problems.

Then we know where the groomers are.
And its microsoft and linux job to control kids because...?
And then a federal judge will rule that this law can be jurisprudenced into meaning computer must enforce Live ID verrification.
You can already enable parental controls on basically every device. There is no excuse for this.
This is the best argument against this law
