Disney. That's why. Decades spent indoctrinating little girls into believing that constantly trying to trade up in search of an obviously impossible peak is normal behavior.
Partly the "forbidden fruit" angle, partly the evolutionary nature ("Alpha Fucks Beta Bucks") and partly the amount of Izzat gained from putting one over on your man - if you're the type of gigatoxic cuntmonster that thinks a relationship is a zero-sum game.
