The employers are, for the most part, golden. They've all been checking through the, RealID system, which says Dave from Buffalo here who speaks no English is, indeed good to work. It doesn't matter that the RealID was issued based on fraud, and it doesn't matter that the employer knows that Dave isn't from Buffalo. The only thing that matters is Dave has a piece of plastic and the employer checked it.
There's an entire industry built around identity theft to create an army of Daves for employers to hire, and none of them will ever be held accountable. In fact, if any employer has the scruples to side-eye Dave and say, "y'know, I don't think you're here legally," there will be an army of ACLU lawyers ready to sue on behalf of Dave and make sure that the employer goes out of business.
It's all a scam. It's all built-in. There will be no accountability for this.
The fines are currently too low, less than an employee on minimum wage gets paid in a year. There is a 3 month prison sentence, but corporations never get that.

They're following the law and it's working exactly as designed. The GOP/chamber of commerce types are just as bad as the Democrats in this regard.
