More specifically, I think it hardens teeth unevenly, which puts more stress on the less hardened parts once the disparity exceeds a threshold. Also makes it harder for dentists to work on.
If your teeth develop while you are exposed to too much fluoride, it creates weak, brittle parts in the teeth.
At best it is a minor cosmetic damage, at worse it causes severe structural damage to the teeth.
Before fluoridation of tap water, structural teeth damage due to fluoride poisoning ( moderate and severe dental fluorosis ) was very rare. It now affects about 25% of teenagers and young adults.
Putting that shit in tapwater looked like a good idea untill kids who grew their teeth exposed to that started having problems, which were ignored and denied because God forbid the government and corporations who pushed for this admit they harmed people.
Fluoride should be considered like soap. You use soap on your hands. You don't swallow soapy water.
Fluoride should be used on the teeth and then spit out. Not swallowed. Not in tap water. Not in bottled water.

Dental fluorosis weakens teeth.
