Zelda was inspired by Shigeru Miyamoto's childhood exploring caves in the countryside.
Pokemon came about from Satoshi Tajiri's love of catching bugs.
Hemingway and Tolkien's stories were shaped by war.
Your modern "artist" does none of that. They live a mediocre existence of sitting in chairs, and occasionally "travel" to sit in a different chair and stuff their face with ethnic yum-yums.
Most of Japan has stories like that. Kids are left to their own thing. You will find a kid hunting lizards 5 miles from town and no one is worried. That's why so many games from Japan have that set up. Miyamoto took it, based stuff on other rpgs at the time, and created Zelda.
Tolkien had most of his story created before he went to war. It was his childhood adventure stories. He just happened to be a linguist with a very strange and tragic life. He said that WW 1 was not very influential.
Hemingway was insane. He thought jokingly shooting himself was funny. No one knows if he meant the suicide. About half the time I was in classes reading his works I recognized fishing metaphors that my city bread teacher didn't understand.
Basically, people who don't understand how talent works make up stories because it makes more sense to them.
I grew up that way here. I find it horrifying that people call the cops or CPS for any playing outside. Any walking to the store. Anything that allows child free assholes to see a child freaks them out, and pisses them off. The kid experience has been ruined intentionally by kid haters.
Is it really child-free assholes? Or is it broken women who are so tuned into to the mainstream news-cycle that Mean World Syndrome has become their personality? Where they see a kid walking unaccompanied outside and are convinced there's 3 serial killers and 8 rapists in that bush down the road.
Granted, there seems to be a concerted effort to prove them right through migration.
Boring people create boring art.
