Why can't they stop messing with the rest of the world?
Religious fanaticism. They see themselves as the Chosen People of God and act accordingly. And getting curb stomped by Rome seemingly made them develop a serious grudge against Europeans. Also it seems to be in their nature. Similar to gypsies. Perhaps its also genetic.

The jewish revolutionary spirit. When you revolt against the Logos of the universe, it has far reaching consequences.
I learned recently that Israel literally means "he who wrestles with God". They're proud of it.
Sometimes I wonder if Boötes Void is artifically made by one such race because of the same reasons.

Two problems.
They're control freaks.
They have no issue with killing their own to further their control. The rest of the world was merely in the way.
And that is why the story of the golem and the rabbi exists. Their self-destructive urge for control have been the same since antiquity.
