Aldi has to put deposits on regular shopping carts because of blacks. I can't see this working anywhere lol.
This isn't even a new idea. I don't know why they think this time will be different, just because it's using cameras and scales instead of barcodes.
I mean Walmart proved it a long time ago, only physically locking up the shit they steal actually works. Physical barriers.

Aldi has put deposits on regular shopping carts, cause that's how Aldi has been doing it in Germany for decades.
The wheels blocking when you want to leave the supermarket's grounds though - that is something only US carts have.
That's only in relatively melanated and urban parts of the US too, in parts where the demographics are still in line with the founding stock and enough distance from cities you can still find unmanned farm stands.
Wait, you mean those shopping carts aren't for sale? I thought they were a steal at 25 cents.
