Its not entirely cope. Trump and his admin, for all their faults, are quite funny, meme worthy and make for a good conversation compared to most politics and president being canned "professional" speech/behavior that nobody cares to even pay attention to.
Showing videos of bombing boats and releasing fucking Pokemon themed ICE videos has done more to get people politically aware than the last decade+ of youtube essays and talking heads, and it'll hopefully carry that momentum for a while. And people aren't as stupid as they seem, they'll pick up on threads that are too obvious.
