The problem is the average consumer is uninformed and just mindlessly consumes. The previous game was great so they buy the next one. Products usually sell based on the quality of the one before that.
Nothing illustrates this better than disney star wars:
TFA: $2 billion. TLJ: $1.3. RoS: barely cracked $1 billion worldwide.
Same thing happened with Spiderman
Sales are supposedly down by a solid chunk. I think its only sold as much as 40% as the previous game? That or it was 40% less.
All they ever do is call their flops, "Fastest selling" now. Which never means shit when the video game market increases YoY.
They only ever release total sales if the game was actually successful.
