The more electronic parts a car has the less reliable it becomes. Add to that manufacturers who also deliberately design parts of the cars so that they break quickly and you get modern cars. But that philosophy isn't exclusive to the car industry. You find it almost everywhere today.

It's no excuse for bad practices, but once you've demonstrated you're bad with money for the initial purchase, is it any surprise they expect you to be bad with money on parts and maintenance?
While I believe everything is made to break these days, I also wonder how many car owners perform the required maintenance on them. Cars ain't what they used to be but neither are car owners.
