It wasn't always called leftism, but as long as there was that set of ideas, they justified violence against their perceived opposition.
They're on the Right Side of History™, they can do whatever they like to us subhumans.

Ideology isn't super common prior to the enlightenment (contrasted with Religion, sect, and cult). It's a bit different.
Religions tend to circle around something specific. Leftism is the idea set behind seizing power through resentment.
Yes, we can see that specific pattern replicated elsewhere, but it wasn't a large-scale belief system that people were required to adhere to at all levels.

Leftism is the political and cultural manifestation human evil. It didn’t start with muh Marxism.
Yes, it started with Rousseau and the Jacobins in France.
But it isn't just a manifestation of evil, it's a warped perspective on humans that inevitably generates evil.
Yeah, most people don't know about the socialist and anarchist terrorist bombings that were going on back then. For some reason, government schools aren't interested in covering that, aside from maybe claiming Sacco and Vanzetti were wrongfully convicted.
