Ideology isn't super common prior to the enlightenment (contrasted with Religion, sect, and cult). It's a bit different.
Religions tend to circle around something specific. Leftism is the idea set behind seizing power through resentment.
Yes, we can see that specific pattern replicated elsewhere, but it wasn't a large-scale belief system that people were required to adhere to at all levels.
Well, like I said, as long as there was that set of ideas. So if you're saying the enlightenment, let's go from there. Point is, leftists have always been violent terrorists.

Leftism is the political and cultural manifestation human evil. It didn’t start with muh Marxism.
Yes, it started with Rousseau and the Jacobins in France.
But it isn't just a manifestation of evil, it's a warped perspective on humans that inevitably generates evil.
You can go back to the Roman populares, where politicians bribed poor urban citizens with bread and circuses. Leftism is a recurring phenomenon, not a modern proper noun.
If that's what you want to talk about, don't call it Leftism, because Leftism is explicitly French. Parisian to be exact.
