The process was triggered by an intrepid Canadian Customs agent a few weeks ago asking some questions upon a return trip from the US.
As Americans, the parents obviously had repatriation rights to return home at their leisure. But they were cavalier to cross the border back&forth without their ducks in a row simply because they had less respect & fear for the Canadian version of ICE.
Yeah they were caught so easily because they were doing the very thing that's gets you the most obviously caught: riding dirty while at a customs checkpoint to enter the country.
Went there for work 15 years ago.
Their work visa is expired.
