Fun fact. JVC and Zenith both made decks in the 80s that did load that way.

Man, I miss the days of secret buttons behind a panel and VFD displays.
And top loading decks were also a thing, yes. But the VCR in the video clearly has a standard wide slot.
Beautiful. I wish they still made electronics with those displays.
They do actually - my Denon receiver has them but they’re very simple displays. But yeah, I’d kill for an old VFD graphic equalizer display.
