Gun libertarians are just as fanatical and monomaniacal as transgender activists. It's completely impossible to have any kind of productive conversation with them.

Obviously because there isn't anything to discuss in t he first place. You can call it fanatical but to use a far more disgusting example... would you tolerate discussions about legalizing the sexual exploitation of children by adults?
The only thing yo discuss is how fast we roll back the restrictions. Do we start by repealing the Hughes amendment and allow new machine guns to be placed on the registry as to give the anti-gun crowd some time to be shown their hysterical cries are nonsense, or do we go balls deep right away and repeal the NFA in one fell swoop?
No, but refusing to go to the meeting to make sure it doesn't happen isn't the winning move you think it is. You're just ceding the ground to the enemy without a fight.
Having a dogmatic position is a strategy, but you actually have to be in the argument to have that position. You can refuse to pay 15k for a used car, but unless you are face to face with the dealer and negotiating from that position, you're just not walking into the dealership and he doesn't know you exist.
We have the guns already, so if you want to have this "discussion" I would suggest you arm up first. Otherwise, it won't go well for you.
