Observant Jews call God G-d or G'd. Not sure how they do it in actual speech. I think it's a name in vain kind of thing, although I'm pretty sure that the name in question is Yahweh and not "God".
That seems weird to me. I would think educating people on God would not be using it in vain.
Using the name of God in vain doesn't mean not saying it. Using the name of God in vain means using it without reverence, respect, trivially, or for evil purposes. Like saying "Oh my God!" casually, or using his name for cursing people, or false swearing in his name.
