Maybe Ted Cruz could say "Iran hates Christians" well then why is Iran friendly with Russia which is more Christian than America? Russia is 73% Christian (71% Orthodox) and America is 63% Christian a big chunk of which are liberals or don't follow any strict Christian tradition.

It's not a bad argument. It's not an argument at all. It's a series of questions meant to provoke thoughts and it does just that. People make claims without explanation the time like Israel is out great ally, or Hitler was a bad guy, or Iran cannot be allowed to have nukes, etc etc. Merely asking questions about these things ie challenging the narrative is considered verboten.
