Because I had to see the trailer before a movie recently, the new Smurf thing is entirely "Papa Smurf is kidnapped, Smurfette is now the leader to go rescue him!" Which will certainly end with her being crowned the new authority or something.

Yeah its a painfully obvious "we got all these guys in a contract and need to use them" movie. Its got a cheap outsourced art style, relies entirely on naming every celebrity possible for all its marketing, and is using a throwaway IP.
Its very existence reveals the fact that Hollywood isn't about making movies, but moving money and favors around in the background.
