I mean, I gotta be honest I think they handled it well from a Korean culture perspective (I did live there for pretty much 5 years) -- it's just so completely unnecessary.

Does it add a dimension to the character? Kinda? Maybe? In that he's not a sexual creep in any way and definitely still acts quite masculine.

Is it a dimension this show needed? Well, it didn't need a second season at all but it certainly didn't need the injection of modern politics into it... it's not even related to what the show's about.

But, to be fair, a real life squid games would be full of the most degenerate homeless and sexual deviants you could imagine, so maybe it's not so far off...

Define "not suppose to"?

The games that are played are kids games, like red light green light or marbles, where you don't have to necessarily be hyper athletic or anything to succeed. They have older characters as well. The point is that the ones participating are poor and destitute which is why they continue to play despite penalty of death.

The characters are all, largely, fighting to survive, not necessarily each other. Most of the characters do form alliances with each other, in order to help each other make it to the end, so for the most part characters do support one another. However, there are conflicts, and some characters like the trans character and others don't, but largely there isn't as much relevance there.

You're not forced to like the character, but generally you're following the plot of people who are fighting against the major overlords of the game, so I'm not sure why you'd root against any of them especially for a superficial reason.

There is a statement made about trying to win the money for transition surgery, and yeah there is dialogue about the struggles, but it's barely a focus at all. It's a character arc, nothing more. There are comments about mental illness and others about "who cares, we're trying to survive a game"
