Yeah, I have a knife on me everywhere I go. I've used it for just about anything except a weapon.
That said, in current year, I assume you're not supposed to bring knives to school, and I don't hide my knife in a backpack, pick fights with people, and then murder them.
Just to be clear, not saying you were defending him or anything. You're right. Personally, I think most men should have a knife on them.
In some states, like New Jersey, self defense is not considered a valid reason for carrying a pocket knife if caught with one.

Canada has ''get killed because resisting is a crime even in your own home'' laws.
But many US states do too ( ''duty to retreat'' ).
