What the intelligence community believes doesn't always matter. After all, 9/11 somehow slipped through their net.
No it didn’t, they were warned repeatedly but chose to ignore it. Just like Israel fed America false information they used to justify the weapons of mass destruction theatrics, the US knew it was a lie but chose to run with it anyway.
That doesn’t make me trust them more. In fact, if we’re discussing how trustworthy the intelligence community is, “they willingly ran with bad intel and ignored good intel” is actually worse than “they’re incompetent.”
I don’t think we should be involved in Iran, but “the intelligence community said not to worry” doesn’t make my list of reasons why. Frankly, given the track record, I’d almost be more inclined to use this as a reason to be concerned.
Given that the only source that is saying Iran is seconds away from bombs is Israel and that Israel has never given good intelligence (they’re also claiming Iran was behind both assassination attempts on Trump) and they have also intentionally given us false intelligence (Iraq wmds, uss liberty, half of the intel we got on the ME) I’m willing to bet that they’re correct on this.

Also, the U.S. government knew the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor, but let it happen to give us casus belli to enter the war, even though the vast majority of the American people didn't want to get involved.
But hey, the war got us out of the depression. Plus Japan wanted pearl harbor, and the US doesn't like giving up naval bases
