Forgive me for not following the news closely with but didn't they have an election not long ago and picked the liberal pro EU candidate? I thought Poland was lost.
Poland probably is lost, as is the rest of Europe. There's no coming back from mass immigration and cripplingly low fertility.
But in American terms, the election won by the EUcrats is the Congressional election (which also makes the government), whereas this one is a president with vastly less power than the American one (but still considerable power).

Some European countries have multiple national elections. The previous one was for parliament (IIRC) and this one was for the presidency.
