My wife has a hard time believing that the PNW is not a place we should live. Not only is Florida different and weird to her, our families are not nearby which bothers her. It's a common refrain I've heard from refugees.

This. My best buddy left for Denver many years ago for work. His parents followed soon after. Basically all his family lives in Colorado, Arizona or Montana now. But... He grew up on the outskirts of Seattle when it was still the Seattle of the nineties/ early 00s. He knows it is a shit hole, but it will always be home to him.

I'm not saying your wrong, but I think some people feel so connected to the place that it will always remain their home even if they leave.
