It doesn't matter. Remember when liberal California put out a referendum to suspend state services to illegal immigrants? It passed by a good margin, 59% - 41%. And before it was signed into law a federal judge struck it down.
Liberal California even voted down Gay Marriage, to which Obama just forced it legal federally because basically no real states were gonna pass it otherwise.
But thankfully, we're very democratic. Save our democracy from Pumpkin Spice Voldemort!
We love democracy the way kids love games. As long as we get our way, games are super fun.
I think it matters. First, for informing the public.
Second because the judiciary can only make itself illegitimate so many times before there's blowback.
Remember that SCOTUS banned capital punishment in the US. There's a reason Florida just executed someone via firing squad.
I didn't remember the SC banned Capital Punishment. I had to look it up. They banned it 1972 and lifted it in 1976.
Yeah, the Warren Court was effectively a legislative body.
