Let's forget centuries of the Church doing charity work and community work, feeding the poor, clothing the poor, housing and employing the homeless, caring for widows and orphans.

Religion is just a tool that keeps the masses in check. No one in power actually believes in it. The degeneracy of modern society is largely the result of foreign interests manipulating our media, not due to a lack of faith.
The reliance on religion itself to maintain order is a testament to the frailty of democracy. Most people are not fit to make important decisions even about themselves, much less others. They need a god to do that for them.
So long as people of moral character maintain control of the media, it can serve as the pulpit to keep the majority in check.
