You absolutely can forgive someone who is unrepentant. It's exactly what Christ did on the cross.

There's a difference from human forgiveness and Godly forgiveness. God knows who is truely repentant and who isn't. That's why he gets the final say on who goes where. Do you imagine you have a say in where everyone goes? And yeah Christ died to forgive our sins, did you think he was up there for fun?
But please continue to make an argument I didn't make.
I think we are misunderstanding one another. If Christ already forgave everyone then for what sins are we going to be sent to hell for?
I would just phrase it as Christ is currently willing to forgive if we come to him in repentance.
Edit: In my head, Christ's forgiveness means all our sins are gone once it happens.
he died to complete the covenant, as one last sacrificial offering on behalf of all mankind. Following that sacrifice, we are no longer obligated to follow the original formula for redemption. But there is a new covenant that requires another action on our part, which is to follow the example of Christ and accept his offer.

What do you think forgiveness means? It's a different word than absolution, because they mean different things. Cause genuinely Jesus doesn't forgive anybody. Jesus dying forgave nobody. Absolution is not forgiveness.
