I agree with you. It's easy to justify hitting China - both because they are an enemy and because it's a fair retaliation for China's various forms of trade manipulation - but he should have been way more restrained with everything else. He has riled up the leftists to the point where they are probably going to take Canada and Australia again, and he is needlessly antagonising people who should be his allies.

Tariffs are an opening position for negotiation. Everyone gets them, and then the talks will start for a trade deal or whatever.
Some people will get better deals than others.
