The world wars are what has led to this. The English didn't want anyone being able to contest their position in Europe and sacrificed their entire Empire for it and became little more than a vassal state in the end. And because it wasn't ironic enough already they got hit harder and faster by the reeducation they forced on the Germans while also losing hard economically. Someone definitely had a sense of humor.
In the end everything leads back to WW1 and WW2. The Old World was utterly destroyed and replaced with the real life hell we're living in today. The last Great Reset and the foundation of life today.
