Games journalists about resident evil 5: a forienger mowing down black people is racist.
games journalists about AC Shadows: a foreigner mowing down countless japanese is perfectly okay. 11/10 GOTY
Ubisoft had the chance to pull the AC in Japan crowd, and the starved for a good ninja stealth game Tenchu crowd who would have loved a sneaking around being a ninja doing assasinations sort of game.
Instead we got this.
It's fucking sad that I think the best thing that could happen to the industry would be a crash.
Those picking up the ashes would do so because they want a fun game that caters to a niche audience. Not a game that has to hit sales targets, filled to the gills with microtransactions on account of they need to recoup the GDP of a small country that was the budget of the game or they become insolvent or some shit like that.
It’s very simple: every other AC features period appropriate protagonists that match the dominant ethnic demographic of the setting. AC Shadows is set in feudal Japan, a country that was and remains 95% or more ethnically Japanese. So why did the male protagonist have to be basically the only black guy confirmed to exist in the country at the time? And why is he upjumped from a slave and a curiosity to the most powerful samurai in the land?
If I’m playing a game set in a place, time, and culture that makes sense for a black protagonist, then I’ll play as a black protagonist. Feudal Japan is not an appropriate setting for a black protagonist.
Female protagonists are trickier because I’m not interested in playing as an insufferable feminist self-insert. I’m also not interested in romancing men. So the only female avatars that work for me are traditionally feminine, family-oriented, and somewhat asexual/autistic. Even overt sex objects are not particularly appealing to me if they are at all sassy. I just find feminine sass to be intolerably obnoxious.
Sex object female protagonists do, however, function as a reliable marker for the absence of leftist values in any product.
Alinea Analytics doing the work that "Games journos" can't!
Great article Auroch!
It would have been nice if they'd put the figures in for Valhalla and Mirage as Shadows is doing better than those at launch according to SteamDB which shows that Twitch has more people interested in Shadows too.
That all said it's a dud. 40K players right now (Apparently) but the game is anything but a game. And calling your potential customer base racist while actually flogging the most racist shit since Gayniggers from Outer Space* takes some doing. Canadians eh?
I'm not sure if this will hurt Ubisoft as much as I want it to but I think it's clear to many more now that games journalists are nothing more than crap adverts for rubbish products.
* That short movie was made with heavy irony. Ass Shadows is not.
Good idea to archive it in case Ubisoft demands the analytic company to take it down.
Anyways, no wonder why the mainstream gaming media is going absolute ham at circling wagons around Shadows, like way more than with Veilguard or Outlaws. Also, if you compare Shadow's CCU to Odyssey's CCU count, Odyssey does a much better job retaining players during the weekdays.

I am a simple man regarding my video games:
Nigger and/or ugly female protagonist = instant pass.

But the silver bullet they deserve.

It might be the silver bullet gamers need, though.
Of course its playstation... most darkies and poors on it.
