I'm pretty sure the authoritarian control over every aspect of people's lives (Including ending them for no reason) is the problem we had with Nazis.
The fact that over-categorising, documenting and then processing people all over again is the current reality that certain authoritarian entities think they can do makes Nazis relevant again.
It's just the wrong side that being called them is taking flak and proving how well meaning people can easily get bent into one.
And then, of course, there are those blaming the Juice for it all.

I really should look more into Weimar Germany, as I have no idea whether or not it actually is what people think it is, or if certain cities were their equivalents to NYC/LA and everyone runs with the assumption that the whole country was like that
