Do you not recall that Trump’s first term was utterly destroyed by the Russian collusion hoax? He was impeached over literal lies commissioned directly by his election opponent. They completely fucked him over.
It started in 2017 when deputy AG Rosenstein (note the name) wrote a memo recommending POTUS fire FBI director Comey for mishandling Hillary's emails. He passed the memo to Sessions who in turn passed it to Trump. Trump listened to his lackeys and fired Comey the next day. As soon as he did it WaPo published a story about the FBI secretly investigating Trump's "ties with Russia". Rosenstein saw that and said "ohh you fired the guy that was unto you, you must have something to hide!" and appointed Mueller as a special counsel to investigate "russia collusion".
It was an obvious setup from the beginning and Trump fell for it like a baby. He honestly has no one to blame but himself.

And much, much more - a daily drumbeat of propaganda and hoaxes back when they made a difference.
But my argument isn't that Trump sucks, it's that his first administration wasn't this massive success, particularly policy-wise.
